Summer Reading 2008

Wrap-up

It’s been a wild summer at the library for more than 100 people who registered for the Summer Reading Program.  We have already had two fabulous programs – Rainforest Reptiles came to the library with some exotic animals that we wouldn’t see in Erving every day, then Jumptown Skydiving Club flew in to the Turners Falls Airport and did an exciting skydiving demonstration for us.  Adults and children alike were awed!  By the time you read this, we will have also had Todd Brodeur, two-time World Freestyle Champion, present a Frisbee Show and Playshop.  Our summer programs will wrap up with a visit from the Boston Museum of Science on August 8 (see below for details).

Magicians_Hat

Ever wonder how magic tricks really work? This program investigates the science behind the "magic" of several classic magic tricks. You might learn how to snatch a tablecloth without disturbing the items on top, make a balloon fireproof, or use electromagnetism to defy gravity. For the grand finale, our educator will demonstrate how science can make it safe to lie down on a real bed of nails!

Summer Reading Program participants who visited the library at least five times and read at least five books will also be invited to join us this evening for our end of Summer Reading Program party!  Tonight is the night that certificates, snacks AND PRIZES are shared to celebrate the successes of our summer readers!

mass_park_pass

We are pleased to announce that we once again have a day pass for the Massachusetts State Parks System. This pass is always very popular with patrons and entitles the bearer to free parking at over 50 day-use facilities in the system -- including our own Erving State Forest and Laurel Lake!  The pass is available for a one-day loan on a first-come first-served basis.  Borrow it on your library card and return it before closing the next day we are open.  It’s a great FREE way to get outside and explore some of our state’s treasures!

You still have time to participate in this summer’s Park Passport Program which the Massachusetts State Parks System created to encourage kids and their families to visit Massachusetts State Parks and facilities.  Get a free passport, visit all the Passport Parks in one region and you can get a free tee shirt!  For more information, ask at the library or go to:
