Statement From the Erving Police Department and Erving School Union 28

April 23, 2024

On behalf of Union 28 and the Erving Police Department

Yesterday April 22, 2024, we became aware of a threat involving an Erving Elementary School student.  Sergeant Paicos took immediate action and began to work with the School and other outside agencies to ensure the safety of all the students.

After speaking with the involved parties, it was found that this threat occurred prior to April School vacation and continued over the vacation week. Action was taken by the School Monday morning when students began to arrive.

The School Administration, School Committee, and Police Department will continue to work with the families involved to resolve this issue.  Due the amount of time that elapsed from the time of the threat and notification to the Police, we would ask that all families take the following steps:

  • Speak with your child and encourage them to immediately report all potential safety concerns to you, School staff or members of the Erving Police Department.
  • Share any and all information with us regarding potential threats.
  • Have a conversation with your child / children about their use of social media and continuously monitor that use.

Our primary concern is to maintain the safety of everyone in the community. It is vital that everyone understand that if you see something please say something.

In emergency situations, please do not use email to report a situation. Instead, please dial 9-1-1.

For non-emergency law enforcement requests, please call the 24-hour Dispatch line at (413) 625-8200 for immediate assistance.

Respectfully,

Jennifer Culkeen, Superintendent

Robert Holst, Chief of Police
